Harnessing the Intellectual Capital of the Diaspora

APDC aims to develop a medium though which the intellectual diaspora can be brought more closely to the continent. It is foremostly necessary to define avenues through which this exchange can be made feasible. The ADPC offers expertise in research to identify the avenues and the hinderances that allow or disallow this exchange.
Dr. Mohamoud has conducted a feasbility assessment to identify the nature of the exchange of the African intellectual diaspora with the continent.
This feasibility study was commissioned to SAHAN research bureau by the NetherlandsOrganisation for International Cooperation in Higher Education (Nuffic). The main aim of this first phase of the study is to investigate the feasibility of involving African diaspora academics and researchers in the Netherlands in a ‘brain circulation scheme’ designed to mitigate the adverse effects of the brain drain in Africa. The study is conducted to obtain baseline information about the profile of highly skilled African diaspora in the Netherlands in terms of their contact information, skills profile and areas of expertise, links they maintain with institutions of higher education in Africa, their readiness to impart their knowledge to Africa, and the challenges, constraints and modalities of transferring knowledge to Africa.
