The Diaspora as agents of peace promotion in Africa
Another arena that ADPC aims to advance is the extent of involvement of the African Diaspora in the process of policy making in collaboration with homeland governments and European governments. It is naturally imperative to understand where, when and how the relationship between conflict resolution in the continent and the Diaspora manifests itself. It can be summarised that three main arenas lack sufficient documentation. The first is to understand the nature and the effect of actions that are undertaken by the Diaspora with regards to conflict resolution in their home countries. Second, the influence of the actions undertaken by the Diaspora in promoting peace in their home countries is of great interest, especially as a point of reference for policy makers to utilise these efforts in a systematic manner. Lastly, it is necessary to identify key practitioners and practical steps that will facilitate actions to be taken by the Dutch government to assist the Diaspora in initiating and promoting peace-building activities in their countries.
